VOLUNTEERS
The St. Vincent DePaul Society, Laconia conference, needs YOU!
We need your TIME, we need your TALENT, and if you can afford it, we need your TREASURE. We need volunteers -- people who perform or give their services of their own free will.
Volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities, the sole objective of which is to provide help to those who need it. Financial resources are provided by the Thrift Store operations and cash donations. All volunteers, including the president, officers and board members are UNPAID.
The Thrift Store
Receives and sells clothing, furniture, and household goods for resale to those who can afford to pay and donated to those who cannot afford to pay. The Thrift Store is open Tuesdays through Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm.
The Food Pantry
In actuality, the Pantry is a free supermarket. The Pantry collects donations from multiple sources including the United States Department of Agriculture, the New Hampshire Food Bank, privately sponsored food drives and individual donations. Cash donations are assigned to a separate account and are used solely to purchase food and personal care items. Food is disbursed in Monday from 12-2PM and Wednesday evenings from 6-8PM. During Pantry hours, six volunteers and the Director of Pantry Operations are needed to distribute food for Pantry clients. Volunteers also work throughout the week, collecting bread and other baked goods from area supermarkets, sorting and storing donations, restocking shelves and cleaning.
Financial Assistance
The Financial Assistance program responds to requests for financial aid. Teams of 2 volunteers make office visits to support the client's request. Interacting with other social agencies, private and governmental, to help clients, is also a requirement.
The Children's Foundation
The Children's Foundation is dedicated to responding to the special educational needs of children whose parent(s) are having difficulties. The aid is determined by the circumstances in each case. It may be to pay for books, clothing or even tuition. It may also be for school supplies and or personal care items.
We need more volunteers. The ideal would be a donation of your time on a regular basis - no matter what amount of time you have available. If you have any free time we would love to have you.
For an appointment and interview, call Erika Johnson, President, at 603-524-5470 on Tuesday - Friday from 10am - 4pm and on Saturday from 10am - 3pm.
